A passion to serve Albuquerque

It all began in 1993 - a partnership with the city to build an affordable housing community. But that project with the city transformed quickly into a passion for the city and the people who call it their home. The staff members at Sol Housing all have one thing in common: a passion to create quality, affordable housing that is within the reach of all New Mexicans.

We create safe, stable, comfortable environments where residents don’t just survive, but flourish. high-quality, family-friendly communities that encourage interaction. And that bring neighbors together with mutual respect and sense of pride. We are highly invested in the long-term success of our communities. So, we also oversee the management of the properties and provide the support needed to maintain the quality and beauty and intent of the original vision. The heart of our work is the resident, not the residence.

Why do we do this?

It’s simple – because we can. And it matters. We know our work has the power to transform lives and communities. It is our dream to redefine what “affordable housing” means and dispel negative associations. Solving the housing crisis in America requires providing quality homes for people. Ones in which they can live a healthy, productive, and joyful life. Homes that every person deserves to have—regardless of income, status, or education. Sol Housing wants to be a part of the solution. So that’s what we’re doing.

Architecture isn't just about designing buildings.

It’s also about orienting spaces around people’s needs. The people who use its rooms, who finance it, who construct it, those who make decisions that affect it. Designing a structure is about the people who live and work in and around it and the lives it will impact for generations to come.

The people of Dekker know our responsibility extends further than architecture itself. Because the influence a place has extends far beyond walls, and the stakes involved are higher than any financial investment. To add to it, the needs of the communities a building lives within are changing at an ever-increasing pace. It is no longer enough to design beautiful spaces that abide by the standards of architecture awards. To create environments that better the way we work, learn, heal, play, and live requires innovation. And true innovation is only possible with a perspective that transcends sectors, vendors, clients, and cultures. It includes them all.

For over 60 years, our teams have woven together empathic insights through our diversity of knowledge and expertise, in turn designing places that serve a multitude of changing needs.
